In Honor of Martin Luther King

Yesterday, I was talking to my brother about him not having school today and he made a comment about who is suppose to celebrate Martin Luther King day, which the answer should be..everyone. So today I have been thinking more about King, about what he stood for and all that he did. Especially with the Inauguration tomorrow, it made me think of what King did to pave the way for our nation and our new president. So below is a poem I read and I hope that today is not just a day off work or school for some but it is a day to remember a great man!

In Honor of Martin Luther King

Some kings rule their kingdoms sitting down
Surrounded by luxury, soft cushions and fans
But this King stood strong stood proud stood tall
When the driver told Rosa "Move to the back of the bus!"
When the waiter told students "We don't serve your kind!"
When the Mayor told voters "Your vote don't count!"
And when the sheriff told marchers "Get off our streets!"using fire hoses, police dogs and cattle prods to move them along
This King stood strong
stood proud
stood tall
Speaking of peace of love and children hand in hand
free at last free at last
When some yelled for violence
For angry revenge
An eye for an eye
And a tooth for a tooth
He stood his ground
Preaching peace
And when some spit out hate
He stood there smiling
Spreading love Until it rolled like the sea across the land
Sweeping away Jim Crow
Breaking down the walls
Ringing the bell
Joyfully For Freedom
Until Standing on the mountain top
They shot him
Coldly Hoping to see him fall
Hoping to put him away
To bring him low
But this King even in death
even today
stands strong
stands proud
stands tall
And we remember

Christmas

We had a great Christmas weekend. On Christmas eve we had dinner at my parents house, thanks Mom for the ham, it was great! Of course we got to open our one gift, which is always pajamas, mine were the cute silk ones from VS that I really wanted.

On Christmas morning, Travis and I opened our gifts from each other and the ones from his family. My amazing husband bought me a Wii, which we have been playing non-stop since Christmas and I got the Wii fit to go with it. Travis got an Xbox from his family, so we are just all gamed out at our house. Its been really fun to play with our friends and our family.

We had Christmas breakfast at my parents house and hung out there during the day. Its always nice just to have a fun day together and to spend time with each other.

Of course Hudson got spoiled, I think he walked away with at least 30 new toys and surprisingly only ruined a couple of them so far.

I just want to thank everyone who made our holiday amazing and spoiled us to death. It was so nice to spend time with our family and friends.

P.S. I'll post more pics later, this is all I had right now!

Christmas Lights on Temple Square

I was very excited to go and see the lights on Temple Square this weekend. It always amazes me at how beautiful it is and just how many lights they put up. I loved the nativity sets from the different countries and the paper bag lights. I think with the warmer weather it encouraged more people to come out, because it was really crowded. But it was definitely worth it. I just love Christmas time!

O Christmas Tree

My favorite part about Christmas is putting up our tree. We usually get a real one, however when we moved into our house we wanted something really tall so we decided to invest in a 9.5' fake tree. The best part is that we can put it up on Thanksgiving and leave it till after Christmas and not worry about it dying...Here are a couple of pictures!

Thanksgiving Weekend

We had Thanksgiving for the first time at our house this year. All of Travis' family came down from Wyoming for dinner. I was a little nervous to make the dinner by myself, but there were no complaints and I think it all turned out great. It really wasnt as bad as I made it out to be, I may even do it again. I had a kids table all set up for the boys and they loved it, they could even color on the table cloth, so that kept them entertained during dinner. It was fun to spend some time with our nephews, since we don't see them often. We watched our share of Christmas movies and put up our Christmas tree. It was a great weekend.

Utah vs TCU

We were so excited to go to the Utah vs TCU game last Thursday. It was definitely a little scary there for awhile but thankfully the Utes pulled out a win. There was so much excitement in the crowd that no one even seems to notice the cold. Now that we have TCU out of the way I just hope we can pull out a win over BYU. Its not a winning season unless you take down the cougars! GO UTES!
